They Prepared to Say Goodbye to Their Baby — Then Wren Kept Fighting
When Nick and Savannah Roberts welcomed their daughter Wren into the world, they were not certain they would ever get to bring her home.
Before Wren was born, doctors warned the Louisiana couple that their baby faced overwhelming medical challenges. Her parents were told to prepare for the possibility that she might not survive birth.
But Wren had other plans.
A Baby Born Against the Odds
Wren was born in September with a rare combination of serious congenital conditions, including heterotaxy syndrome, spina bifida, heart defects and the absence of a spleen.
Her condition was so severe that her parents had begun preparing for the possibility of losing their newborn daughter before they could even get to know her.
Instead, Wren survived.
Doctors discovered that a highly unusual blood vessel in her heart, known as a major aortopulmonary collateral artery, was helping deliver blood to her lungs in a way that proved crucial to her survival.
Every Small Milestone Became Something Huge
Wren has required intensive medical care, including spinal surgery and feeding support. Her journey has been far from easy, but each new milestone has given her family another reason to hope.
Her first feeding was celebrated as something extraordinary. So were the moments when she was strong enough to leave the hospital environment for ordinary family experiences.
For parents who once feared they would be planning their daughter’s funeral, watching Wren experience the world has become a gift they never expected to receive.

Her Parents Refuse to Give Up
Nick and Savannah have spoken openly about the emotional journey of caring for a child whose future remains uncertain.
Rather than focusing only on the obstacles ahead, they have chosen to celebrate what Wren can do today. A feeding, a family outing or another day of progress may seem small to others, but for them, each moment represents another victory.
The family has also created a community around Wren’s story, with thousands of people following her progress and offering encouragement.
A Story About More Than Survival
Wren’s doctors recognize that her case is highly unusual. Her survival does not mean that the challenges are over, and she continues to need specialist medical care.
But her story has already changed the expectations surrounding her life.
Her parents once had to imagine saying goodbye. Now they are watching their daughter grow, reach new milestones and experience moments they were never sure they would see.
One More Day, One More Reason to Hope
For Wren’s family, the future remains uncertain. There will likely be more procedures, more hospital visits and difficult decisions along the way.
Yet the little girl who was never expected to make it this far continues to surprise the people around her.
Her story is a reminder that sometimes hope does not arrive as one dramatic miracle. Sometimes it appears quietly — in a baby’s first feeding, a new movement, a family outing, or simply another morning together.
And for Wren’s parents, another morning with their daughter is already something worth celebrating.
