Iowa Father Sentenced to 58 Years in Prison After Killing Infant Daughter and Attacking Her Mother

An Iowa man has been sentenced to 58 years in prison after pleading guilty to the fatal beating of his two-month-old daughter and assaulting the child’s mother when she tried to intervene.
Dylan James Brown, 24, was sentenced on October 9 in connection with the death of his daughter, Mia Green, who died on August 7, 2025. According to the Polk County Attorney’s Office, Brown must serve at least 35 years before becoming eligible for parole.
Court records and prosecutors’ statements described a devastating attack on the infant. According to reporting by KCCI, Brown struck Mia more than 40 times. A medical expert testified that the baby suffered multiple fractures, including injuries to her skull and ribs.
When Mia’s mother attempted to stop the attack, Brown assaulted her and strangled her until she lost consciousness, according to reports cited by PEOPLE. He later pleaded guilty to a domestic abuse assault charge involving the child’s mother.
The judge imposed an additional three-year prison sentence for Brown’s probation violation stemming from a separate 2023 road-rage incident. Brown was also ordered to pay $150,000 in restitution to the child’s family.

During the sentencing hearing, Brown apologized to the people affected by his actions. His attorneys had asked the court to consider his reported mental health struggles and difficult childhood when determining the sentence.
The judge, however, emphasized the seriousness of the crimes and the vulnerability of the infant.
Mia’s death has left her family facing an unimaginable loss. The sentence means Brown will spend decades in prison before he can even become eligible for parole.
