Eden Winograd, a 25-year-old UC Berkeley student, was walking her dog one evening when she noticed a man approaching her. When she crossed the street, she says he began following her. 💔

Eden managed to reach the gated apartment complex where she lived and quickly got inside.

Then she looked back.

The man was climbing over the locked gate to follow her inside. Surveillance footage later captured the frightening moment. 😰

Berkeley police said there was no direct contact between Eden and the man. Initial reports suggested he had a knife, but investigators later determined the object was likely a barbecue lighter. Police identified and detained the man the following day, but he was not arrested at that time. The case was submitted to the District Attorney’s Office for review.

For Eden, the experience left her shaken — especially knowing that someone had followed her into a place she believed was secure.
