Three Jailed After 20-Year-Old Man Is Fatally Shot in Málaga

Three people have been placed in provisional prison after a 20-year-old man was fatally shot in Málaga, Spain, in what investigators believe may have been a case of mistaken identity.

The shooting happened Friday in the Barcenillas neighborhood, where the victim was reportedly sitting on a bench near his home.

Victim Was Not Linked to Organized Crime
According to police sources cited by Spain’s EFE news agency, investigators believe the victim had no criminal record and was not connected to drug trafficking or organized crime.

Police are examining the possibility that the three suspects mistakenly believed the young man was a threat.

The victim was shot several times and, despite being able to reach a nearby supermarket for help, later died in hospital.

Three Suspects Arrested
Police arrested three people in connection with the shooting.

One suspect was detained shortly after the incident. Investigators later searched a property in Málaga and arrested a second person. The third suspect was identified and eventually arrested in Fuengirola.

The investigation involved specialist units dealing with drug trafficking and organized crime.

Suspects Remain in Custody
A Málaga court ordered all three suspects to remain in provisional custody without bail. The three are being investigated for homicide.

During their court appearances, the suspects exercised their legal right not to testify.
