Florida Couple Indicted for Murder After 6-Year-Old Boy Dies Amid Allegations of Horrific Abuse

Florida Couple Indicted for Murder After 6-Year-Old Boy Dies Following Years of Alleged Abuse

A Florida couple was indicted on first-degree murder charges after the death of 6-year-old Anthony Rouse, a child whose final months were marked by disturbing allegations of repeated abuse inside his family home.

Tre Seymore, 27, and Alize Seymore, 25, were indicted on August 31, 2023, following an investigation into Anthony’s death in Winter Haven, Florida. The boy died on April 24, 2023, two days after authorities responded to reports that he had been found unresponsive in a bathtub.

According to investigators, the couple allegedly told police that Anthony had been sent to take a bath as punishment for soiling himself. His stepfather, Tre, reportedly said he later found the child face down in the water and called emergency services. Anthony was taken to a hospital but did not regain consciousness.

Investigators Uncover Disturbing Allegations

As the investigation progressed, authorities said they found evidence suggesting Anthony had endured repeated physical abuse before his death.

A search of the family’s home reportedly revealed troubling living conditions, including rooms without electricity and bedrooms that could be locked from the outside. Investigators also reported finding a dog cage in the garage that was allegedly used to punish the child.

According to statements cited by Fox News, Anthony’s autopsy revealed signs of prior injuries. Authorities also interviewed two other children who lived in the home.

Investigators alleged that the children described being encouraged or rewarded with food and candy for physically abusing Anthony. They also reportedly described incidents in which the boy was placed in a cage or had his head held underwater as punishment.

These accounts became part of the investigation into the circumstances leading to Anthony’s death.

Messages Raised Further Questions

Authorities also examined text messages exchanged between the couple in the days before Anthony died. According to the original report, the messages included a discussion about placing the boy for adoption.

On April 21, 2023, Alize reportedly wrote that she wanted to put Anthony up for adoption. The messages added another troubling detail to investigators’ efforts to understand the events preceding his death.

Anthony’s biological father, Andre Rouse, told reporters that his son had been energetic and playful. He also said he had repeatedly offered to take custody of the boy.

Criminal Charges Follow the Investigation

The couple were arrested in May 2023 and later indicted on multiple charges, including first-degree murder and aggravated child abuse. Other allegations included aggravated manslaughter of a child and offenses related to child abuse.

After the arrests, Florida’s Department of Children and Families took the other children from the home into protective custody.

The charges represent allegations brought by prosecutors, and the indictment itself does not establish guilt. The case drew attention to the importance of investigating warning signs of child abuse and ensuring that vulnerable children can access protection.

For Anthony’s biological father and other loved ones, the loss of a 6-year-old child remains a devastating tragedy.
