Florida Father Kills Wife in Front of Their Children After Argument Over Child Discipline, Authorities Say

A family argument in Deltona, Florida, ended in a devastating tragedy in October 2022, leaving three young children without their mother and father.

According to the Volusia County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to a home on October 17 after a 10-year-old boy ran to a neighbor for help, reporting that his stepfather was attacking his mother.

Investigators identified the man as Oscar Salazar, 31, and the woman as Byanca Cruz Tovar, 26. Authorities said the couple had argued over how to discipline one of the children before Salazar allegedly stabbed Tovar multiple times. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Salazar was found seriously injured with wounds to his neck. He was taken to a hospital, where he later died. Officials described the incident as an apparent murder-suicide.

Three children were at home during the incident: Tovar’s 10-year-old son and the couple’s two younger children, ages 5 and 2. Authorities said the children were not physically injured, but the tragedy left them facing the loss of both parents.

The sheriff also revealed that Salazar had a history of domestic violence allegations involving Tovar, including previous arrests in 2016. Investigators said they were examining the circumstances surrounding the fatal incident.

The case is a heartbreaking reminder of how domestic violence can devastate entire families, especially children who are left to cope with the aftermath. The children were placed with relatives as authorities worked to ensure they received care and support.
