New Father of Triplets Kidnapped and Killed in Case of Mistaken Identity as Police Hunt 3 Suspects

A California community is mourning the death of a 57-year-old father of triplets who was allegedly kidnapped and killed after being mistaken for another man. Authorities are now seeking three suspects believed to be connected to the case.
Avtar Singh, a respected member of the Sikh community in Tracy, California, disappeared on February 17, 2026, after being taken from a local Sikh temple. Three days later, his body was discovered near Lake Berryessa in Napa County, bringing a tragic end to the search for him.
According to the San Joaquin County Sheriff’s Office, surveillance footage showed three men forcing Singh into a vehicle against his will. Investigators later determined that the suspects may have been looking for someone else and mistakenly abducted Singh instead.
Reports indicate that the intended target was allegedly connected to a cargo theft accusation and was in Canada at the time of Singh’s disappearance. Authorities have not publicly established all the circumstances behind the suspected mix-up.
The three men authorities are seeking are Alberto Alonso Alencastro, 25; Alfonso Cresencio Segura Arellano, 20; and Barnabe Antonio Segura Arellano, 22. They have been indicted in connection with the kidnapping and killing, according to the sheriff’s office. Their whereabouts remain unknown, and authorities are asking anyone with relevant information to come forward.
Singh’s death has devastated his family, particularly because he had recently become the father of triplets who were only around six months old. His loved ones described him as humble, caring and deeply devoted to serving others at the temple, where he had spent many years supporting the community.
The loss has also deeply affected members of the Sikh community, who remembered Singh for his faith, kindness and willingness to help those around him. A fundraising campaign was established to support his wife and three young children as they face life without him.
Investigators continue to seek information that could help locate the suspects and clarify the events leading to Singh’s death. Authorities have warned members of the public not to approach or attempt to apprehend the men if they believe they have seen them.

For Singh’s family, the case represents an unimaginable loss: a husband and new father whose life was cut short, leaving three infants to grow up without him.
