Las Vegas Strip Shooting: Ammar Harris Sentenced to Death After Deadly Chase Left Three People Dead

A late-night confrontation on the famous Las Vegas Strip turned into a deadly shooting and fiery crash in February 2013, leaving three people dead and several others injured. The case later ended with Ammar Asim Faruq Harris being sentenced to death.

A confrontation that ended in tragedy

In the early hours of February 21, 2013, Kenneth Cherry Jr., a 27-year-old aspiring rapper known as Kenny Clutch, was driving a Maserati along Las Vegas Boulevard. According to investigators, Harris became involved in a confrontation with Cherry and another man after an incident near a nightclub.

The dispute escalated into a vehicle chase. Prosecutors said Harris fired shots at Cherry’s car while the vehicles were moving along the Strip.

Cherry’s Maserati then collided with a taxi, triggering a fiery crash. The taxi driver, Michael Boldon, and passenger Sandi Sutton-Wasmund were killed. Cherry also died from the shooting, bringing the death toll to three. Other people were injured in the incident.

A weeklong search for the suspect

After the shooting, Harris left Nevada. Authorities launched a search that ended on February 28, 2013, when he was arrested in Los Angeles.

The case attracted widespread attention because the violence occurred in the heart of Las Vegas’s busiest tourist district, where visitors and residents were nearby when the shooting and crash unfolded.

The trial and death sentence

In October 2015, a jury found Harris guilty of 11 felony charges, including three counts of first-degree murder. Jurors subsequently recommended the death penalty.

On January 4, 2016, a judge formally sentenced Harris to death for the three killings. He also received additional prison time for related offenses.

The case became one of the most widely reported criminal proceedings connected to violence on the Las Vegas Strip. For the victims’ families, however, the legal outcome could not undo the loss of their loved ones.

The tragedy remains a reminder of how quickly a confrontation can escalate, with consequences extending far beyond the people directly involved.
