South Carolina Woman Accused of Killing Bride in Drunk-Driving Crash Seeks Release on Bail

A newlywed’s wedding night ended in tragedy when a golf cart carrying the bride and groom was struck by a car in South Carolina. As the woman accused of causing the crash sought release on bail, recordings of her conversations from jail offered a glimpse into her reaction to the deadly incident.
Jamie Lee Komoroski was accused of crashing her Toyota Camry into a golf cart carrying newlyweds Samantha Miller and Aric Hutchinson shortly after they left their wedding reception on Folly Beach on April 28, 2023.
Miller, 34, died in the collision, while Hutchinson suffered serious injuries. Two other people riding in the golf cart were also injured.
According to police and court records cited by Fox News, Komoroski was allegedly driving at approximately 65 mph in a 25-mph zone. Authorities also reported that her blood alcohol concentration was more than three times the legal limit.
In jailhouse recordings reported by The Post and Courier, Komoroski could be heard crying as she spoke with family and friends about the crash and the possibility of spending years in prison. She reportedly described the collision as a “freak accident” and expressed regret, saying she had not intended for anyone to be hurt.
In another conversation, she reportedly discussed the possibility of being released on bond, noting that other people accused of serious crimes had been granted bail.
Her lawyers urged the public not to rush to judgment, emphasizing that the allegations had to be considered through the legal system. Prosecutors, meanwhile, faced the task of addressing the fatal consequences of the collision.
The case prompted intense public attention, particularly from Miller’s family, who were left grieving a woman whose wedding celebration had turned into a fatal crash.

The bail dispute was one stage in a case that would continue through the courts. Komoroski’s statements from jail drew attention, but the central issue remained the evidence surrounding the collision and the death of Samantha Miller.
