‘Zombie Angelina Jolie’ Reveals Her Real Face — The Truth Behind the Viral Photos Shocked the Internet

For years, images of an Iranian woman with sunken cheeks, an unusually thin face and exaggerated features spread across social media. Known online as the “Zombie Angelina Jolie,” Sahar Tabar became an international sensation as people wondered whether she had really undergone dozens of plastic surgeries to resemble the Hollywood actress.
But the truth behind the disturbing photographs was very different from what many people believed.
Sahar Tabar is the online name of Fatemeh Khishvand, an Iranian woman whose images went viral in 2017. Her dramatic appearance sparked rumors that she had undergone more than 50 cosmetic procedures to transform herself into a lookalike of Angelina Jolie.
The photographs showed an almost skeletal face, oversized-looking lips and a sharply pointed nose. The images attracted millions of views and prompted intense debate about beauty standards, cosmetic surgery and the lengths some people might go to for online fame.
However, Khishvand later explained that much of the appearance seen in her viral photographs was created using makeup and digital editing, including Photoshop. She said she had undergone some cosmetic procedures, including a nose operation, lip fillers and liposuction, but the extreme transformation portrayed online was not the result of dozens of surgeries.
She also clarified that imitating Angelina Jolie was not her main goal. Instead, she described the images as a form of artistic self-expression and said she had been inspired in part by the character from the animated film “Corpse Bride.”
In October 2022, after being released from prison in Iran, Khishvand appeared in a televised interview in which viewers could see her face without the dramatic digital effects that had made her famous. The contrast reignited public interest in her story and challenged the assumptions many people had made about her appearance.

Her life had also taken a serious turn beyond social media. Khishvand was arrested in Iran in 2019 and faced several charges related to her online activities. She was reported to have received a 10-year prison sentence in 2020, but she was released after spending approximately 14 months in detention.
The case attracted international attention, with human rights concerns emerging over her imprisonment and the treatment of people expressing themselves online in Iran.
What began as a series of shocking photographs eventually became a story about digital manipulation, internet fame and the danger of accepting viral images at face value. The woman many people believed had radically changed her appearance through extreme surgery had used makeup and editing to create a striking online persona.
Her story remains a reminder that the images people encounter on social media do not always reveal the full truth about the person behind the screen.
