Man Charged With Murder After Father, 41, Found Dead Beside Walking Trail in Australia

A 45-year-old man has been charged with murder following the discovery of a 41-year-old father’s body beside a walking trail in Maryborough West, Queensland, Australia.

The victim, Alan Thomas Christie, was found by a member of the public on October 7, 2026. His death prompted a two-week police investigation before authorities announced the murder charge on October 21.

Body Discovered Near a Walking Trail

Emergency services were called to Slaughterhouse Road shortly before 7 a.m. after a passerby reported finding a man unresponsive. Police arrived and declared Christie dead at the scene.

Investigators established a crime scene and began examining the circumstances surrounding his death. The location was described as being near a walking trail in an industrial area of Maryborough West, approximately three hours north of Brisbane.

Police Allege Victim Was Fatally Assaulted

Detective Acting Inspector Cameron Schneider said investigators would allege Christie was assaulted during the early hours of October 7 and died at the scene.

Police indicated that excessive force or blunt force had allegedly been used. However, investigators had not publicly established a motive for the suspected attack.

According to police, Christie and the accused man knew each other as associates. Both had reportedly been sleeping at a campsite near the location where Christie was found.

Detectives continued gathering witness statements and reviewing security footage to establish the events leading up to the alleged assault.

Suspect Remanded in Custody

Shaun Glen Jones, 45, was charged with one count of murder and appeared before Maryborough Magistrates Court on October 21.

He was remanded in custody, and the matter was adjourned until January 19, 2027.

Christie was remembered in a public obituary as a dearly loved father of two children and a much-loved son and brother. He had previously lived in Bundaberg.

The investigation remains focused on determining what led to the alleged fatal assault. The murder charge is an allegation, and the accused is entitled to the presumption of innocence unless proven guilty in court.
