Rapper Julio Foolio Was Killed in a Hotel Parking Lot While Celebrating His 26th Birthday

Florida rapper Julio Foolio was fatally shot in a hotel parking lot in Tampa while celebrating his 26th birthday, bringing a sudden end to a music career marked by personal struggles, public rivalries and repeated fears for his safety.

The rapper, whose legal name was Charles Jones, was killed early on June 23, 2024. His attorney, Lewis Fusco, confirmed his death to Entertainment Weekly.

According to Tampa police, officers responded to reports of gunfire at approximately 4:40 a.m. They found two vehicles that had been struck by bullets and four people suffering from gunshot wounds. Jones was pronounced dead at the scene, while three other victims were taken to a hospital in stable condition.

Jones had traveled to Tampa to celebrate his birthday. His representative said the gathering initially took place at an Airbnb but was moved after the group was reportedly asked to leave because of occupancy limits. The celebration subsequently continued at a hotel, where the fatal shooting occurred.

Authorities described the incident as an active investigation at the time, while Jones’ representative said he had reportedly been ambushed in the hotel parking lot.

Born in Jacksonville, Florida, Jones built a following through songs including “Coming Up,” “Crooks” and “Reach The Top.” He released multiple projects during his career, including the 2024 album Resurrection, and developed a substantial audience on social media and streaming platforms.

His music and public image were often associated with Jacksonville’s longstanding rap rivalries. Jones had also spoken openly about the violence and personal losses that affected his life.

In an Instagram post published months before his death, he described surviving multiple attempts on his life and losing friends to incarceration and violence. His words later took on a painful significance following the shooting.

His representative remembered Jones as more than the controversial entertainer known to the public, describing him as someone who had faced difficult circumstances while striving to succeed.

In the weeks after the killing, investigators announced arrests in connection with the case. Authorities alleged that the shooting was linked to an ongoing gang rivalry, though the accusations against individual suspects must be distinguished from proven facts.

Jones’ death at just 26 left fans mourning a rapper whose life and music had been shaped by the violence he had repeatedly described.
