Food Influencer Throws Cheesesteak at Famous Philadelphia Restaurant Manager — Then His Own Video Leads Police to Him

A food influencer who allegedly threw a cheesesteak into a restaurant manager’s face after criticizing the sandwich has been charged with harassment, after video footage of the confrontation helped authorities track him down.
The incident occurred at Pat’s King of Steaks, a famous cheesesteak restaurant in South Philadelphia, on September 30, 2026. The customer reportedly ordered a cheesesteak with Cheez Whiz and onions before sitting outside and filming himself handling the food.
Surveillance footage showed the man pulling apart the sandwich before returning to the service window and confronting general manager Tom Francano. The customer then allegedly threw the cheesesteak at Francano before fleeing the scene.
Francano, who has worked at the restaurant for nearly five decades, was not seriously injured. Footage showed him throwing pieces of the sandwich back toward the fleeing customer.
The Video That Helped Identify the Suspect
The incident might have remained a brief confrontation if the customer had not apparently recorded and shared his own version of events online.
Restaurant owner Frank Olivieri said his information technology team traced the footage to social media accounts associated with food reviews, pranks and Philadelphia street content.
The video reportedly presented the incident as a food review, with a title criticizing the cheesesteak. The restaurant owner argued that the customer appeared to have deliberately staged the confrontation for online attention.
Philadelphia police confirmed that the man turned himself in on October 1. He was subsequently charged with harassment, a summary offense. Authorities did not publicly identify him in their initial statements.
Restaurant Owner Offered a $5,000 Reward
Olivieri offered a $5,000 reward for information leading to the man’s arrest and conviction after the incident.
He said he wanted accountability not only for his employee but also for restaurant workers who might become targets of social media stunts. The owner also expressed concern that allowing such behavior to go unpunished could encourage copycat incidents.
The episode sparked debate about the boundaries of online food criticism and whether the pursuit of viral attention can cross the line into harassment of workers.
A Cheesesteak Review That Backfired

Pat’s King of Steaks has operated for decades and is one of Philadelphia’s best-known destinations for the city’s signature sandwich.
For the restaurant, the incident was not simply a negative review. Olivieri said the customer’s actions were disrespectful to an employee who had spent years serving customers.
The case also offered an unusual lesson in the permanence of online content: footage intended to attract viewers may also provide evidence that helps investigators identify the person behind it.
