20-Year-Old Pilot Nathalia Gadelha Filgueiras Among Nine Killed in Fiery Florida Private Jet Crash

A young pilot who earned her aviation license while still in high school was among nine people killed when a private jet plunged into a Florida neighborhood and exploded in a massive fireball.
Nathalia Gadelha Filgueiras, 20, was serving as co-pilot aboard a Learjet 60 that crashed in Greenacres, Palm Beach County, on November 1, 2026. The aircraft had departed Austin, Texas, and was heading toward the Bahamas when the disaster occurred.
Her family confirmed her identity following the tragedy. Her mother, Camila Corteleti, said the young woman had been one of the crew members aboard the aircraft.
Nathalia’s path into aviation began unusually early. She earned her private pilot’s license in 2023, when she was just 17 and still attending West Boca Raton Community High School. According to local reports, she had accumulated 88 flight hours before obtaining her license.
Her achievement at such a young age made her a source of pride for her family and an example of how seriously she had pursued her passion for flying.
Final moments before the aircraft went down
The Learjet was carrying seven passengers and two crew members when it crashed at approximately 12:50 p.m. local time.
Air traffic control recordings reveal that the crew reported ice accumulating on the aircraft and moderate turbulence shortly before the situation deteriorated.
The pilot requested permission to climb to a higher altitude. But the aircraft soon began losing altitude rapidly, prompting a series of emergency radio calls.
In the final communications, the crew declared a mayday and reported an extremely fast descent. The aircraft then struck the ground in Greenacres, producing a powerful explosion and leaving a large crater.
The National Transportation Safety Board said early evidence suggested that parts of the aircraft may have separated before impact. Investigators are examining the circumstances surrounding the rapid descent and possible structural breakup.
Nine lives lost in the tragedy
The crash also claimed the lives of technology entrepreneur Adam Robinson, his wife Helen Sharp and their two young children, Emma, 4, and Charlie, 2.
Other passengers included Anita Maria Cetina, Rachael Reed and Charmi Fehr. The identity of the second pilot had not been publicly confirmed in the initial reports.
The disaster also affected people living near the crash site. Authorities evacuated residents from dozens of nearby mobile homes while investigators examined the wreckage and surrounding area.

For Nathalia’s family, the loss is especially painful because she had spent years pursuing her dream of becoming a pilot. At just 20, she had already reached a milestone that many aspiring aviators spend years working toward.
The investigation remains ongoing, and officials have not yet established the definitive cause of the crash.
