Prince Harry and Meghan Prepare for First Overseas Trip Since UK Return as Controversy Surrounds Duchess’s Family

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are preparing to step back into the international spotlight with a high-profile visit to Brussels, marking their first joint overseas trip since returning to the United Kingdom.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are scheduled to travel to the Belgian capital on November 10 to launch the Lost Screen Memorial at the European Parliament. The event will bring attention to children whose lives were lost following harmful experiences linked to social media.
The memorial, created through the Archewell Foundation’s Parents’ Network, features 50 illuminated displays resembling smartphone screens. Each one carries a photograph of a child, shared by their family, to highlight the devastating consequences of online harm and the need for stronger protections.
Harry and Meghan are expected to deliver a joint keynote address lasting between 15 and 20 minutes. Their message will focus on turning promises about online safety into meaningful action and ensuring that children’s experiences are considered when technology policies are developed.
Harry will also take part in a panel discussion titled “Beyond Promises: Building A Digital Future That Works For Children,” examining how governments and technology companies can help create safer online environments.
The visit comes at a particularly sensitive moment for Meghan. It is expected to be the couple’s first public appearance since allegations involving her estranged father, Thomas Markle Sr., became public.
Reports have said that suspected child sexual abuse material was allegedly found among electronic devices linked to Thomas Markle Sr. in the Philippines. His son, Thomas Markle Jr., reportedly alerted authorities. Philippine police have said that ownership of the devices has not yet been established.
Thomas Markle Sr. has denied possessing child sexual abuse material and rejected the allegations. No charges against him have been announced in connection with the claims.
Meghan previously said she was deeply distressed by the allegations and had been assured that concerns raised with police were being investigated.
The Brussels engagement follows the couple’s joint appearance in Nottingham in October, after they returned to the UK. It also continues their efforts to raise awareness of online safety, following earlier Lost Screen Memorial events in New York and Geneva.

While the trip is centered on protecting children in the digital world, the timing means Harry and Meghan are likely to attract attention for more than their charitable message as they make their first overseas appearance together in months.
