Former Teacher Who Posed as Teen to Solicit Nude Photos from Girls Sentenced to Prison

A former high school teacher and soccer coach in New York has been sentenced to three years in prison after admitting that he posed as a teenage boy online to solicit nude photographs from underage girls.
Ryan McCaffery, 38, formerly taught social studies at Riverhead High School on Long Island. He also coached the school’s junior varsity boys’ soccer team.
According to prosecutors, McCaffery used Snapchat to contact minors, sometimes adding accounts at random while pretending to be a teenager. Investigators said he asked underage girls to send nude images and sent some of them explicit photographs of himself.
The investigation also uncovered evidence that McCaffery sought and shared child sexual abuse material through other online platforms, including Kik, according to the Suffolk County District Attorney’s Office.
McCaffery resigned from his teaching position in February 2025 and was arrested several months later. The investigation began after authorities received information about suspected illegal material being shared online.
In September 2026, McCaffery pleaded guilty to two felony counts of disseminating indecent material to minors as a sexually motivated felony and one misdemeanor count of endangering the welfare of a child.

On October 21, 2026, he was sentenced to three years in New York prison, followed by five years of post-release supervision. The New York sentence will run concurrently with a separate five-year sentence he is serving in New Jersey for similar offenses, according to news reports.
The case has raised concerns about the risks children face when adults use social media to conceal their identities and solicit sexual images. Authorities continue to urge parents and young people to report suspicious online behavior.
