Footballer’s Girlfriend Left Alone at Hospital as His Father Breaks Down Watching Fatal Collision on TV

The final hours of Spanish footballer Jesús de Miguel’s life were marked by heartbreak for the people closest to him. While his girlfriend María waited at the hospital with their young daughter, his father was thousands of miles away, watching the horrifying collision that would ultimately claim his son’s life.

De Miguel, a 30-year-old striker for CD Tenerife, died on November 3, 2026, after suffering a serious chest injury during a match against FC Andorra. His girlfriend María and their young daughter Carla, who was around 16 months old, had been at the stadium when the incident happened.

The collision occurred in the closing moments of the match, when FC Andorra goalkeeper Jesús Owono came out to challenge for a ball and struck De Miguel. The Tenerife forward collapsed and required urgent medical attention. He reportedly suffered a cardiac arrest and was taken to hospital, where he later died.

According to Fernando Román, a close friend of the footballer, María spent hours alone at the hospital with the devastating news unfolding around her. Román said he and his girlfriend had been in contact with her throughout the afternoon and night, trying to offer support during an unbearable period.

Speaking about the tragedy, Román described how difficult the situation had been for María and expressed his concern for her and the couple’s little girl. He also recalled that they had recently been talking about taking a trip to Disney together with their children, making the sudden loss even harder to comprehend.

Meanwhile, De Miguel’s father was watching the match at a bar in the family’s hometown of Navahermosa, in Toledo. A neighbor told Spanish television that the father began crying as soon as he saw the collision on screen. Realizing the seriousness of what had happened, he hurriedly made arrangements to travel to Tenerife with his family.

The footballer’s death has devastated his family, friends and teammates. Román paid an emotional tribute to his friend, describing him as someone who brought happiness to those around him and whom he considered part of his own family.

CD Tenerife confirmed De Miguel’s death in a statement, expressing its profound grief and offering support to his loved ones. The club and the wider Spanish football community have since paid tribute to the young striker.

For María, their daughter Carla and De Miguel’s parents, the tragedy has left a family facing a future without someone they loved. What began as an ordinary football match became a moment that changed their lives forever.
