Ohio Mother of 16 Pleads Not Guilty to Child Endangerment and Sexual Abuse Charges

Elizabeth Siders, a 33-year-old mother of 16 children from Vinton County, Ohio, has pleaded not guilty to a series of charges stemming from two separate criminal cases.

Siders appeared in Vinton County Common Pleas Court on September 16, 2026, where she entered not-guilty pleas to 19 counts of child endangerment, as well as two counts of sexual battery and two counts of unlawful sexual conduct with a minor. The sexual-offense allegations involve a minor relative who was between 13 and 16 years old at the time of the alleged conduct.

The sexual-abuse charges are separate from the case involving Siders’ 16 children. According to the Ohio Attorney General’s office, the indictment alleges that the conduct occurred between January and September 2022. The alleged victim was not one of Siders’ children.

Siders’ attorney, Thomas Stolly, has raised concerns about whether his client is competent to stand trial. A competency evaluation was requested, and the results remain pending. Stolly told the court that Siders has been asking about her children and wants to see them, but a judge ordered her to have no contact with the children, her husband or the alleged victim.

Her bond in the sexual-offense case was set at $250,000, in addition to a $300,000 bond already imposed in the child-endangerment case. That brought her combined bond to $550,000.

The case first drew widespread attention on June 30, 2026, when authorities executed a search warrant at the family’s home in Hamden and discovered 16 children living in what investigators described as severely unsafe and unsanitary conditions. The children ranged in age from about 18 months to 18 years.

Authorities alleged that the children had spent much of the previous several years confined primarily to a roughly 12-by-12-foot room in a home contaminated with human waste. Officials also reported that some of the children had significant developmental and educational needs. The children were subsequently placed in state custody.
