Authorities said they were offering their condolences to Brown’s family and friends while the investigation into the circumstances of her death continued.
Local reports said people in the area remembered Brown as a friendly woman. One friend described her as intelligent and funny and said she had a great deal of potential.
Man Arrested at the Property
A 52-year-old man was taken into custody at the scene. Police later confirmed that he had been charged with murder.
The man appeared in Christchurch District Court and was remanded in custody. He is scheduled to return to court on October 16.
His name has not been released publicly after the court granted interim name suppression.
