Miracle in Kentucky: Missing 6-Year-Old Boy Found Alive After Three-Day Search by Horseback Volunteers

A six-year-old boy who disappeared from his family home in Kentucky has been found alive after an extensive three-day search involving hundreds of volunteers, emergency responders and a team of horseback riders.

Roman Heilman, a nonverbal autistic child, vanished from his home on Tadpole Road in Louisa on the afternoon of November 1. Kentucky State Police issued an IAN Alert as concern grew for his safety, prompting an urgent search across the surrounding countryside.

The operation brought together local residents, police officers, firefighters, search-and-rescue teams and volunteers who searched wooded areas and difficult terrain. Drones, aircraft and search dogs were also deployed as rescuers worked to locate the missing child.

A breakthrough came on Tuesday, November 3, when a group of horseback volunteers found Roman in a wooded area approximately a mile and a half from his home.

Among those involved were Jacob Mullins, a horse trail rider from Louisiana, and Patrick Finley, a welder from West Virginia. They joined other riders and spent hours navigating the challenging terrain in the hope of finding the boy.

Mullins later described the emotional moment Roman emerged from the bushes. The child reportedly approached the group and said, “E-I-E-I-O horsey.”

The rescuers gave him water and snacks before wrapping him in a sweatshirt and carrying him down the mountain on horseback to meet medical personnel.

According to accounts from the search team, Roman had scratches believed to have been caused by thorny vegetation and was showing signs of dehydration. He was taken for medical evaluation after being rescued.

The discovery brought enormous relief to a community that had spent days hoping the young boy would be found alive. Hundreds of people had volunteered their time, supplied food and equipment, and helped search the surrounding area.

Local school officials praised the extraordinary community response, thanking the volunteers and emergency crews who worked tirelessly to bring Roman home.

Kentucky State Police confirmed that Roman had been found safe, while medical professionals assessed his condition. Authorities have not released a full account of how he became separated from his family or every detail of his time missing.

For the volunteers who searched through the woods and hills, the moment Roman was finally located marked the end of an exhausting operation and an outcome the entire community had been praying for.
