Former San Francisco Police Sergeant Suspected in Deaths of Wife and Daughter in California Home

A tragic shooting in Marin County, California, has left a former San Francisco police deputy chief and her 24-year-old daughter dead, with investigators identifying the woman’s retired police officer husband as the suspected shooter.
Authorities responded to reports of gunfire at a home in the Strawberry community near Mill Valley on October 11, 2026. Inside, deputies found three people dead: Kevin Mannix, 68, his wife, Ann Mannix, 65, and their daughter, Katherine “Katie” Mannix, 24.
According to the preliminary investigation, Kevin Mannix is suspected of shooting his wife and daughter before taking his own life. Officials have described the incident as an apparent double murder-suicide. The investigation remains ongoing.
Ann Mannix had a distinguished career with the San Francisco Police Department. She rose to the rank of deputy chief and was recognized as a trailblazer for women in law enforcement, including her service with the department’s SWAT team. She retired in 2021 after decades of service.
Kevin Mannix was also a longtime member of the department, retiring as a sergeant in 2018 after approximately 27 years in law enforcement.
The deaths have deeply affected former colleagues and members of the San Francisco law enforcement community. Police officials and professional organizations have paid tribute to Ann’s career and her contributions to the department.

Investigators are continuing to examine the circumstances surrounding the shooting. Authorities have not publicly established a definitive motive, and the family’s loss has prompted an outpouring of condolences from colleagues and the wider community.
