Oklahoma Parents Face First-Degree Murder Charges After 2-Year-Old Daughter Is Killed by Family Dog

OKLAHOMA CITY — Two Oklahoma parents are facing first-degree murder charges following the death of their 2-year-old daughter, Locklynn Rose McGuire, who was fatally attacked by a family dog inside their home in November 2025.

Darci Lambert, 24, and Jorden McGuire, 34, were initially charged with second-degree murder. On December 8, 2025, prosecutors upgraded the charges to first-degree murder after reviewing evidence they said indicated the parents knew their daughter faced a serious risk of harm. Both also face two counts of animal cruelty. <

A Previous Attack Raised Concerns

According to the Oklahoma County District Attorney’s Office, police responded to the family’s home on November 18, 2025, after receiving a report of a child who was not breathing. Officers found Locklynn dead with injuries consistent with an animal attack.

Investigators alleged that the toddler had previously suffered serious injuries in an attack by the same dog. Prosecutors contend that the parents nevertheless allowed her to remain near the animal despite knowing the potential danger.

The earlier incident had raised concerns about the child’s safety, and the circumstances surrounding that episode later became a significant part of the broader investigation. An April 2026 investigation by Oklahoma Watch also reported questions about how the earlier injuries were assessed and how child welfare officials responded.

Animal Welfare Concerns at the Home

Authorities removed four dogs from the residence after Locklynn’s death. Three of the dogs were reportedly malnourished. Two bearded dragons were also removed.

The animal cruelty charges are connected to allegations concerning the animals’ condition and care. Prosecutors say the evidence surrounding the dog’s condition and the alleged earlier attack helped establish why they believed the child was knowingly exposed to danger.

Parents Remain in Custody as Case Continues

When the first-degree murder charges were announced in December 2025, both defendants were being held at the Oklahoma County Detention Center on $1 million bonds each. A conviction for first-degree murder can carry a sentence of life imprisonment, including life without parole under Oklahoma law.

The case has also raised questions about whether earlier warning signs could have prompted intervention before the fatal attack. An Oklahoma Watch investigation published in April 2026 examined the roles of the family, medical personnel and child welfare officials in the events leading up to Locklynn’s death.

Locklynn’s death has devastated her family and drawn attention to the importance of taking potential risks to a child’s safety seriously. The parents’ criminal charges remain allegations, and they are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
