Two Workers Killed in Virginia Workplace Shooting as Police Investigate Motive
Two workers were killed and another was injured after a man opened fire at an equipment rental business in Manassas, Virginia, on Wednesday morning.
Police identified the suspected shooter as 37-year-old Marvin Grant of Charlotte, North Carolina. Authorities said Grant was also an employee at the business.

Shooting Began After an Altercation
Police were called to the United Rentals facility in Manassas shortly after 7 a.m. on September 30 following reports of a shooting.
Manassas Police Chief Doug Keen said an altercation had taken place before Grant allegedly pulled a handgun from his waistband and fired at three co-workers.
The two workers who died were identified as 48-year-old Richard Lamont and 33-year-old Christopher Serrano. A third employee was taken to a hospital and was reported to be in stable condition.
At least eight employees were inside the facility when the shooting occurred, according to police.
Suspect Fled the Workplace
After the shooting, Grant left the business in a vehicle. Investigators used cellphone information to track his movements toward the Harrisonburg area.
Virginia State Police later spotted his vehicle on Interstate 81 in Augusta County.
Grant initially continued driving after officers attempted to stop him. He eventually pulled over and exited the vehicle while holding a firearm.
Standoff Ends With Suspect’s Death
Police brought a negotiator and a tactical team to the interstate. The standoff lasted about an hour.
Authorities said Grant then shot himself. He was taken to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Virginia State Police said their officers did not fire their weapons during the incident.

Police Have Not Determined a Motive
Investigators have not yet established why the shooting occurred.
Police said there had been an altercation before the gunfire, but they were still reviewing evidence and surveillance footage to determine exactly what happened inside the workplace.
Authorities also said the investigation would continue even though the suspected shooter had died.
Nearby Schools Were Locked Down
The shooting prompted security measures in the surrounding area. Nearby schools were placed under lockdown while police searched for Grant after he left the workplace.
The lockdowns were later lifted after authorities located the suspect and determined that the immediate threat had ended.
The investigation remains ongoing as police work to establish the sequence of events and the circumstances that led to the workplace shooting.
