AT LEAST 29 DEAD AFTER SCHOOL ROOF COLLAPSES ON CHILDREN DURING CLASSES — OWNER ARRESTED

What began as an ordinary school day in Pakistan ended in tragedy when the roof of a private school suddenly collapsed onto classrooms filled with young children, killing at least 29 people and injuring dozens more.

The disaster occurred on Thursday, October 15, 2026, at Al-Khair Education Center in Peshawar, northwestern Pakistan.

Authorities confirmed that the school’s owner had been arrested as investigators examined serious concerns about the building’s structural safety.

A School Day Turns Into a Disaster

Children were attending lessons when the roof of an upper floor suddenly gave way, causing the structure beneath it to collapse into occupied classrooms.

Students and teachers were caught beneath falling debris as sections of the building crumbled.

According to updated reports, at least 28 children and one teacher lost their lives. The children were all believed to be younger than 13.

More than 50 people were reported injured, including several in critical condition.

Rescuers Race to Find Children Beneath the Rubble

Emergency responders rushed to the school as residents from the surrounding neighborhood joined efforts to reach those trapped.

Photographs from the scene showed rescue workers searching through debris while ambulances waited nearby.

District emergency officer Iftikhar Khan said rescue teams had pulled at least 45 children from the wreckage during the operation.

Lady Reading Hospital declared an emergency as medical teams received casualties and treated the injured.

Rescue workers later reported that those trapped beneath the rubble had been recovered, while crews continued clearing the damaged site.

School Owner Arrested as Investigation Begins

Peshawar police chief Saeed Ahmed confirmed that the owner of the private school had been arrested.

Authorities raised concerns that the building was structurally weak and that excessive weight on its upper section may have contributed to the collapse.

However, the precise cause has not yet been conclusively established.

Investigators are examining whether construction defects, overloading or failures to meet safety requirements played a role in the disaster.

The owner’s arrest does not itself establish criminal responsibility.

Families Face an Unimaginable Loss

The tragedy has devastated families whose children had left home expecting another ordinary day at school.

Many of the victims were still in primary education, with their lives cut short inside the classrooms where they had gathered to learn.

As hospitals continued treating the injured, attention turned toward identifying how such a catastrophic structural failure could have occurred in a building used by young students.

Questions Remain Over School Safety

The disaster has renewed concerns about the structural condition of educational buildings and the importance of effective construction safety inspections.

Authorities have ordered an investigation into the collapse, while emergency services and medical personnel continue dealing with its devastating consequences.

For the families affected, the investigation cannot undo what happened on October 15, but its findings may help establish responsibility and prevent another tragedy.
