China’s CXMT Says New Memory-Chip Platform Enters Mass Production
BEIJING, China — September 20, 2026

Chinese memory-chip maker ChangXin Memory Technologies (CXMT) said its fifth-generation technology platform has entered mass production, marking a significant step in the company’s efforts to expand its position in the global DRAM market.

The new platform is designed to produce more powerful memory chips while reducing costs and power consumption, according to the company.

New Platform Uses Denser Chip Design
CXMT said the new technology allows the tiny structures used to store data to be packed more closely together.

The Hefei-based company has reduced the spacing of key features in its memory cells to 11.95 nanometres, using a manufacturing technique known as quadruple patterning to create finer circuit patterns.

CXMT vice president Luo Xiaodong said the company’s process capability is now comparable with advanced mass-produced nodes in the industry.

New LPDDR5X Chips Enter Production
CXMT also unveiled two 24-gigabit LPDDR5X products manufactured using the new platform.

The company said the chips can store 50% more data than its previous equivalent products and are already in mass production. LPDDR5X is a low-power form of DRAM commonly used in smartphones and other portable electronic devices.

CXMT said the new platform can produce at least 50% more gross chip dies per wafer than its fourth-generation platform, based on an 8-gigabit chip comparison.

The figure refers to the potential number of chips produced from a wafer before defective units are removed.

China Seeks Greater Chip Independence
The development comes as China continues efforts to expand domestic semiconductor manufacturing and reduce reliance on foreign technology.

CXMT has become China’s leading DRAM producer and is competing in a market dominated by companies including Samsung Electronics, SK Hynix and Micron Technology. The company has also recently expanded into newer memory technologies, including LPDDR6.

CXMT said the latest platform was developed through computer simulations and cooperation with Chinese semiconductor-equipment companies.

The company has not publicly disclosed detailed production volumes for the new platform.
