Baby Angelita Case: California Mother Charged After 14-Year-Old Daughter Found Safe in Mexico
MOTHER ARRESTED IN ‘BABY ANGELITA’ CASE AS INVESTIGATION REVEALS NEW DETAILS
A deeply disturbing California case involving a teenage girl and her newborn daughter has taken another turn after the teenager’s mother was arrested on charges related to the alleged endangerment of her child.

Ofelia Garcia Ortega, 36, was arrested on October 6 in connection with an investigation that began after a newborn girl, known publicly as “Baby Angelita,” was found dead beside a road in Monterey County on August 1.
Authorities say the baby’s 14-year-old mother, Diana Galvez Ortega, was later reported missing alongside her father, Sergio Galvez Perez, 38. The teenager was found safe in Mexico on October 5, and her father was arrested during the operation.

Investigators allege that Perez sexually abused his daughter and fathered the baby. He faces multiple charges in connection with the alleged abuse.
Ortega, the teenager’s mother, faces separate allegations. Prosecutors say she used falsified identification documents to allow her daughter to work in agricultural fields, permitted her to drive without a license and allowed her to remain out of school for an extended period.
The charges against Ortega include possessing or displaying forged identification, permitting a child to suffer or be endangered, and contributing to the delinquency of a minor. She has pleaded not guilty, according to local reporting.
Authorities have also released further information about the circumstances surrounding the newborn’s death. The investigation remains ongoing, and officials are continuing to examine the evidence.
The case has raised urgent questions about the protection of vulnerable children and whether warning signs of alleged abuse were missed.
For now, investigators are working to establish the full sequence of events, while the legal cases against the adults involved move forward.
