Bailey Boswell and Aubrey Trail: Where Are the Killers of Sydney Loofe Now?

Nearly nine years after 24-year-old Sydney Loofe disappeared following a Tinder date in Nebraska, Bailey Boswell and Aubrey Trail remain behind bars for their roles in her murder. Their case is now drawing renewed attention following the release of a new documentary examining the disturbing events that led to Loofe’s death.
Loofe, a hardware store employee from Lincoln, Nebraska, was reported missing in November 2017 after failing to show up for work. She had recently met Boswell through Tinder, where Boswell reportedly used the name “Audrey.” The two went on a date on November 14 and arranged to meet again the following evening.
Investigators later determined that Boswell and Trail, her boyfriend, had been involved in the events surrounding Loofe’s disappearance. Her dismembered remains were discovered in garbage bags along rural roads in Nebraska in December 2017.
The investigation uncovered evidence including cellphone records, purchases made before the killing and DNA recovered from items connected to the crime. Prosecutors argued that the couple had planned the murder, while Trail attempted to portray Boswell as having participated under pressure.
Both were ultimately convicted of first-degree murder, conspiracy to commit murder and improper disposal of human skeletal remains.
Where is Bailey Boswell now?
Boswell, now 32, is serving a life sentence at the Nebraska Correctional Center for Women in York. She was sentenced in November 2021 after the three-judge panel could not unanimously agree on imposing the death penalty.
In May 2024, the Nebraska Supreme Court upheld her convictions and sentences, rejecting her challenges to evidence presented at trial. She has continued to pursue post-conviction relief, with a hearing on an appeal-related matter scheduled for November 2026.
Where is Aubrey Trail now?
Trail, now 60, was sentenced to death in June 2021 and remains on death row at Tecumseh State Correctional Institution in Nebraska.
During his trial, Trail made a dramatic courtroom outburst in which he declared Boswell innocent before cutting his own neck with a hidden razor blade. He survived the incident and later remained subject to his death sentence.
In 2023, Trail waived his appeals and asked to be executed. However, an execution date has not been set, and Nebraska has faced difficulties obtaining the drugs required for lethal injection.
A case that continues to draw attention

The murder of Sydney Loofe shocked her family and the wider community because of the circumstances surrounding her disappearance and the discovery of her remains. The case also prompted questions about how dating apps can be exploited by people seeking to manipulate or harm others.
The new Hulu docuseries Swipe Right on the Devil, released in October 2026, revisits the investigation, the couple’s relationship and the evidence presented in court.
For Loofe’s loved ones, the convictions brought legal accountability after years of uncertainty. But her death remains the central tragedy of a case that continues to attract public attention.
