Brooke Hanlon’s Autopsy Reveals Cause of Death — Nearly Five Months Later, Her Killer Remains Unknown

Nearly five months after 35-year-old Brooke Hanlon was found dead inside her New Jersey home, a newly reported autopsy finding has confirmed the cause of her death. Yet the investigation remains unresolved, with no arrests publicly announced.
Hanlon, a psychotherapist and mother of a young daughter, was found with multiple wounds at her home in Chester, New Jersey, on June 6, 2026. Her husband, James “Conor” Hanlon, discovered her and called emergency services, but efforts to save her life were unsuccessful.
According to an autopsy report obtained by PEOPLE, Morris County Medical Examiner Dr. Di Wang determined that Hanlon died from “sharp force injuries.” The manner of death was classified as homicide, confirming that her death was the result of a criminal act.
The autopsy was conducted on June 7, one day after she was discovered. However, the report was not certified until September 20. Much of the document has been redacted, leaving limited publicly available information about the examination and the circumstances surrounding her death.
Representatives from the Chester Township Police Department, Morris County Sheriff’s Office and Morris County Prosecutor’s Office were listed as present during the autopsy.
Despite the passage of months, investigators have not publicly announced an arrest or identified a person of interest in connection with Hanlon’s killing. The Morris County Prosecutor’s Office declined to comment on possible developments when contacted by PEOPLE.
Hanlon’s death has left behind a young daughter, Avery, who celebrated her first birthday in July, just weeks after losing her mother. Hanlon and her husband married in 2021, purchased their Chester home in 2024 and welcomed their daughter in 2025.
Her obituary remembered her as a loving wife and devoted mother whose compassion extended to friends, family and the people she helped through her work. She had also volunteered with children facing emotional challenges and participated in charitable projects supporting disadvantaged communities.

As investigators continue working on the case, the autopsy has established how Hanlon died, but many questions remain unanswered. Authorities have not publicly disclosed who was responsible or provided a timeline for when further information might be released.
