A Polish woman who publicly claimed she could be Madeleine McCann has received DNA test results indicating that she is Polish and has no identified British or German ancestry, according to her spokesperson.

Julia Faustyna, also known as Julia Wandelt, attracted widespread attention after claiming on social media that she might be Madeleine McCann, the British girl who disappeared during a family holiday in Portugal in 2007.

Faustyna said she believed she could be Madeleine because of similarities in their appearance, including a mark in her right eye and a beauty mark on her face. She also raised questions about her childhood and said some details did not appear to add up.

Her claims gained tens of thousands of followers on Instagram and TikTok. Faustyna and Fia Johansson, who acted as her spokesperson, also appeared together on the television program Dr. Phil.

Johansson later announced that DNA testing had been completed. According to her statement, the results showed Faustyna was of Polish origin, with negligible genetic influence from Lithuania and Russia. Johansson said the test did not indicate British or German ancestry.

Johansson said Faustyna had genuinely believed that she might be Madeleine and that questions surrounding her childhood contributed to her suspicions.

Following the results, Faustyna reportedly reunited with her father, while Madeleine McCann remains missing.

Madeleine disappeared on May 3, 2007, when she was three years old. She was staying with her parents, Kate and Gerry McCann, and her twin siblings at a holiday apartment in Praia da Luz, Portugal.

According to the account provided to Fox News, Madeleine was taken from her bed while her parents were nearby with friends. Her disappearance prompted a major international investigation that has continued for years.

The Metropolitan Police said it continued to support German authorities with their investigation into Madeleine’s disappearance but declined to provide further comment.

In 2020, German authorities identified Christian Brueckner, a convicted child abuser and drug offender, as a suspect in the case. Brueckner has denied involvement in Madeleine’s disappearance.

At the time of the report, Brueckner was serving a prison sentence in Germany for drug-related offences and was also facing a separate sentence connected to the rape of an American woman in Praia da Luz in 2005.

Madeleine’s family continues to seek information about her disappearance through the official Find Madeleine campaign.
