HIS EX-WIFE MARRIED A BILLIONAIRE – Part 1: The Woman He Lost

HIS EX-WIFE MARRIED A BILLIONAIRE
Chapter 1: The Woman He Lost
Three years ago, Adrian Blackwood had thrown his wife out of his life with nothing but a divorce agreement and a heart full of regret he had yet to feel.
Today, the woman he once called worthless was returning to his world—and she was about to marry the one man Adrian hated most.
The Blackwood family mansion glittered beneath crystal chandeliers. Business tycoons, politicians, and society’s most influential families had gathered for the annual charity gala. Yet the whispers spreading through the ballroom were not about the millions donated that evening.
They were about a woman in a silver evening gown standing beside billionaire Alexander Sterling.
“Is that really Emily Blackwood?”
“Impossible! I heard Adrian divorced her because she couldn’t have children.”
“Then why is Alexander Sterling treating her like a queen?”
Across the room, Adrian froze.
Emily.
His ex-wife.
She looked more beautiful than he remembered, but it was not her appearance that made his chest tighten. It was the quiet confidence in her eyes, the way she smiled without seeking anyone’s approval, and the diamond ring sparkling on her finger.
A ring that could only mean one thing.
Alexander lifted Emily’s hand and kissed it gently.
“Ladies and gentlemen,” he announced, his voice commanding the room, “I have someone very special to introduce tonight.”
The conversations faded.
“This woman is not only the person I love,” Alexander continued. “She is the woman I intend to marry.”
Applause erupted around them.
Emily smiled.
And Adrian felt as though the entire room had turned against him.
Three years ago, she had stood in his office, tears streaming down her cheeks, begging him to believe that she had never betrayed him.
But he had refused to listen.
His mistress, Victoria, had shown him medical documents claiming Emily was incapable of having children. Adrian, desperate for an heir to carry on the Blackwood legacy, had believed every word.
“You can never give me the family I want,” he had told Emily coldly. “There is no reason for us to stay married.”
Emily had stared at him in disbelief.
“I loved you before you had billions in the bank, Adrian. I would have loved you even if you lost everything.”
“Love doesn’t build a dynasty.”
Those had been his last words to her.
She signed the divorce papers the following morning and disappeared.
For three years, Adrian had convinced himself that he had made the right decision.
Until tonight.
“Congratulations, Emily.”
His voice interrupted the conversation between her and Alexander.
Emily turned slowly.
For one brief moment, something flickered in her eyes. Pain, perhaps. Or the memory of a life she had buried long ago.
Then it vanished.
“Thank you, Adrian.”
She spoke to him as if he were a distant acquaintance.
That hurt more than he expected.
His gaze dropped to her engagement ring before returning to her face.
“So you’ve moved on.”
Emily gave a faint smile. “You taught me how.”
Alexander slipped an arm around her waist, his expression calm but his eyes sharp.
“Adrian, I believe you’ve met my fiancée before.”
“Oh, we’ve met,” Adrian replied, forcing a smile. “We used to be married.”
“I know.” Alexander’s smile widened slightly. “Emily has told me everything.”
Adrian’s jaw tightened.
Everything?

Had she told him how she had begged for another chance? How she had cried alone in their bedroom after the divorce? How she had once planned to name their future daughter Grace?
Before he could respond, Emily stepped closer.
“There is one more thing you should know, Adrian.”
Something in her voice made him uneasy.
“I’m not here just to attend a charity gala. Alexander and I are about to announce a business partnership between Sterling Enterprises and the Ashford family.”
Adrian frowned.
The Ashfords were one of the oldest and wealthiest families in the country. Their influence had declined in recent years, but their private investments and inherited assets were still enormous.
“What does that have to do with you?” he asked.
Emily held his gaze.
“Everything. My mother was an Ashford.”
Adrian went completely still.
He had never known that.
Emily had grown up in a modest home with a mother who rarely spoke about her past. Adrian had assumed her family had nothing to offer his own, and he had never bothered to investigate further.
Now, the woman he had dismissed as a burden was standing beside his greatest rival, carrying a name that could change the balance of power between their families.
But Emily wasn’t finished.
She reached into her clutch and withdrew a small white envelope.
“I thought you deserved to see this before the announcement.”
Adrian took it, his fingers suddenly cold.
Inside was a photograph.
A little boy, perhaps two years old, stood in a garden holding a toy airplane. He had dark hair, bright eyes, and a familiar expression that made Adrian’s breath catch.
On the back of the photograph, someone had written a date.
Three years ago.
Adrian looked up sharply.
“Who is this child?”
For the first time that evening, Emily’s composure faltered. Her fingers tightened around Alexander’s hand.
“My son,” she answered quietly.
Adrian stared at her.
“Your son? But you couldn’t—”
“I couldn’t have children?” Emily finished, her voice trembling with anger she had held inside for three long years. “That’s what Victoria told you, isn’t it?”
The ballroom seemed to disappear around them.
Adrian remembered the medical reports. Victoria’s tears. Her promises that she only wanted to protect him from a marriage that could never give him an heir.
And then he remembered something he had spent three years trying to forget.
The night Emily had told him she was pregnant.
The night he had accused her of lying.
The night she had left their home in tears.
His eyes returned to the photograph.
The boy’s age. His dark hair. The shape of his eyes.
A terrible possibility began to take shape in his mind.
“Emily,” he whispered, his voice breaking, “how old is your son?”
She looked at him for a long moment.
Then she delivered the words that shattered everything he thought he knew.
“He turned three last month, Adrian.”
She paused, her eyes glistening.
“And if you want to know who his father is, you should ask the woman you chose over me.”
Before Adrian could speak, Alexander gently guided Emily toward the stage.
The lights dimmed. The guests turned their attention to the couple.
And Adrian remained frozen in the middle of the ballroom, clutching the photograph of a child who might be his own.
For the first time in three years, he understood the true cost of losing Emily.
But the worst was yet to come.
Because Victoria was standing behind him.
And when she saw the photograph in his hand, all the color drained from her face.
She knew exactly who the little boy was.
