Jahmyr Gibbs Scores Three Touchdowns as Lions Hold Off Jets 31-24

Jahmyr Gibbs scored three touchdowns as the Detroit Lions defeated the New York Jets 31-24 on Sunday, helping Detroit survive a dramatic fourth-quarter comeback at Ford Field.

Gibbs finished with 164 total yards, including 99 rushing yards on 20 carries and 65 receiving yards on seven receptions.

Gibbs Takes Control in the Second Half

The Lions entered the second half with the game still close, but Gibbs quickly became the central figure in Detroit’s offense.

He scored two rushing touchdowns in the second half, including a 17-yard run and a 1-yard touchdown. He then added an 11-yard touchdown reception from Jared Goff with 2:25 remaining to put Detroit back in front 31-24.

The performance continued an impressive start to Gibbs’ fourth NFL season. He became the first player in NFL history to record at least 300 rushing yards, four rushing touchdowns, 150 receiving yards and two receiving touchdowns through his team’s first three games of a season.

Jets Fight Back

New York appeared to have completed a major comeback after trailing by 14 points in the fourth quarter.

Quarterback Geno Smith threw touchdown passes to Jeremy Ruckert and Garrett Wilson, while a two-point conversion tied the game at 24-24 with less than five minutes remaining.

Wilson finished with 10 receptions for 107 yards and a touchdown, while Smith completed 31 of 37 passes for 321 yards and three touchdowns.

Lions Seal the Victory Late

Detroit responded immediately. Goff and Gibbs moved the Lions down the field before Gibbs found the end zone for his third touchdown.

The Jets then drove into Detroit territory with a chance to tie the game. But with less than a minute remaining, Lions safety Chuck Clark sacked Smith and forced a fumble.

Linebacker Jack Campbell recovered the ball, ending New York’s final comeback attempt.

Detroit Improves to 2-1

Goff completed 25 of 32 passes for 269 yards and two touchdowns without an interception. Amon-Ra St. Brown also caught a touchdown pass for the third consecutive game.

The victory moved Detroit to 2-1 on the season, while the Jets fell to 1-2.

Detroit will travel to face the Carolina Panthers next Sunday, while the Jets will visit the Chicago Bears.
