Kelly Clarkson Says Brooklyn Store Judged Her — Then Lost a “Huge Sale”
Kelly Clarkson Calls Out Brooklyn Store After Feeling Judged: “You Just Lost a Huge Sale”

Kelly Clarkson is speaking out after a shopping trip in Brooklyn, New York, allegedly left her feeling judged by a store employee.
The Grammy-winning singer shared her experience on X on October 10, saying she had traveled across the city to visit a shop she thought looked interesting and already had several items in mind to purchase.
But according to Clarkson, the interaction did not go as expected.
She claimed the employee appeared to assume she could not afford the merchandise and offered to find something comparable instead.
Clarkson was clearly frustrated by the experience.
“Wow, dude. You’re an idiot and just lost a huge sale,” she wrote, before naming the store as Art of Play in Brooklyn.
Why she compared it to “Pretty Woman”
Clarkson referenced the iconic 1990 romantic comedy Pretty Woman, starring Julia Roberts.
In one of the film’s best-known scenes, Roberts’ character, Vivian Ward, is treated dismissively by employees at a clothing boutique who underestimate her based on her appearance.
Vivian later returns to the store after shopping elsewhere, delivering the memorable line: “Big mistake. Big. Huge.”
Clarkson’s comparison quickly caught attention online, with many readers recognizing the parallel between the movie scene and the experience she described.

The store faces online attention
Art of Play is known for its collection of unusual gifts, toys, puzzles, games, books and other distinctive products. The Brooklyn shop also features a small theater for close-up magic performances.
Following Clarkson’s post, the business became the subject of discussion across social media, with some users criticizing the alleged interaction.
Reports also noted that the store shared a customer review praising its staff for their kindness on Instagram Stories before the post was later removed.
As of the latest reports, the store had not publicly provided a detailed response to Clarkson’s account.
The incident has reignited a familiar conversation about customer service and the importance of treating shoppers respectfully, regardless of how they look or what employees assume they can afford.
For Clarkson, what could have been an ordinary shopping trip became a widely discussed celebrity moment — and a reminder that first impressions can have real consequences for a business.
