Hundreds Gather in Harlem to Remember Lovay Williams at Funeral

Hundreds of family members, friends and community members gathered in Harlem on Saturday, September 19, to say goodbye to 27-year-old Lovay Williams, whose life was cut short earlier this month.

Williams’ funeral was held at Canaan Baptist Church in Harlem, New York, where mourners came together to honor a young mother remembered by her family as devoted to her daughter and loved ones.

Williams was found dead inside her Washington Heights apartment on September 6, 2026. Police determined that her death was a homicide, launching an investigation that has since led to an arrest.

In the days following her death, Williams’ family and members of the community organized memorial gatherings and vigils to remember her life and support those closest to her.

Her family has described Williams as a loving and devoted mother. She leaves behind a young daughter, who is now facing the loss of her mother at just 7 years old.

Williams’ death has also resulted in the arrest of her boyfriend, 41-year-old Tiliek Thompson. He is accused of offenses connected to her death and is currently being held at Rikers Island while the criminal case proceeds.

The charges against Thompson are allegations, and he is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in court.

At Saturday’s funeral, mourners gathered not only to grieve Williams’ death but also to celebrate the memories she left behind. Friends and relatives stood together as they remembered a mother, daughter, friend and member of their community.

The large turnout reflected the impact Williams had on the people around her and the deep loss felt by those who knew her.

As her family continues to seek justice, they are also working to support Williams’ young daughter and preserve the memory of the mother she lost.
