69-Year-Old Passenger Rescued After Falling Between Moving Train and Platform

Chennai, India — September 25, 2026

A 69-year-old passenger was rescued after falling into the narrow gap between a moving train and the platform at Guindy railway station in Chennai.

A Dangerous Fall

The incident happened Thursday evening when a Villupuram-Chennai Beach train was departing from Platform 1.

The passenger, identified as Mohammed Elias, was attempting to board the train when he slipped and fell into the gap between the train and the platform.

As the train continued moving, Elias was dragged for approximately 50 metres before the train came to a stop.

Quick Action by Railway Officer

Railway Protection Force constable Narayan Singh immediately moved toward the passenger and helped pull him to safety.

Other passengers on the platform also responded as the train was brought to a halt. Elias had suffered a bleeding injury to his left leg and was given first aid while railway personnel called an ambulance.

He received further treatment before returning home.

A Rescue Captured on Video

Video footage of the incident shows the dangerous position of the passenger between the train and platform and the efforts to bring him out safely.

The rescue was later documented by Reuters Connect, which identified Singh as the railway officer who pulled Elias to safety.

Officials Issue Safety Warning

Railway authorities advised passengers not to attempt boarding or getting off a train while it is moving.

The incident also highlighted the risks passengers can face when trying to board a departing train, particularly when the train has already begun moving.

For Elias, the incident ended with an injury rather than a far more serious outcome after railway personnel and fellow passengers reacted quickly.
