Maryland Man Held Without Bond in Rockville Bar Shooting That Killed 33-Year-Old
ROCKVILLE, MARYLAND — September 22, 2026
A 21-year-old Maryland man accused of fatally shooting another man after a confrontation at a Rockville sports bar has been ordered held without bond, according to Montgomery County authorities and court reports.
Shayan Solimani Damabi, of Gaithersburg, is charged with first-degree murder and use of a firearm in the commission of a violent crime in connection with the death of 33-year-old Nicholas Njuki.
Shooting Followed Bar Confrontation
The incident happened around 2 a.m. on September 13 near Quincy’s Potomac Bar & Grille in the Potomac Woods Plaza on Seven Locks Road.
Police said Njuki and Solimani Damabi had been involved in a confrontation inside the restaurant. Security personnel intervened, and the two men left through different exits.
Njuki later left the area in a vehicle with a friend, while Solimani Damabi was in a separate car. The two vehicles encountered each other again near Fortune Terrace and Northside Park Boulevard.
According to investigators, Njuki got out of the vehicle and approached Solimani Damabi’s car. Police allege that Solimani Damabi then opened fire.
Njuki was found suffering from a gunshot wound and was pronounced dead at the scene. Additional shots were fired toward the vehicle carrying Njuki’s companion, police said.
Suspect Arrested at Motel
Detectives obtained an arrest warrant charging Solimani Damabi with first-degree murder and a firearms offense.
Four days after the shooting, officers assigned to the U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force located him as he left a motel in Gaithersburg. He was arrested without incident and taken to the Montgomery County Central Processing Unit.
Judge Orders Detention Without Bond
At a September 18 bond hearing, a Montgomery County judge ordered Solimani Damabi to remain in custody without bond while the case proceeds.
Prosecutors argued that the number of shots fired and the circumstances of the killing supported continued detention. His defense attorney, meanwhile, argued that Damabi had initially been attacked by a larger group and claimed he was trying to escape the confrontation.
The court is scheduled to hear the case again on October 16.
The allegations against Solimani Damabi remain subject to the legal process, and he is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
