A mother of two from Glasgow has died nine months after being diagnosed with an incurable brain tumour.

Kim Borthwick was diagnosed with glioblastoma on January 18, just one week after she began experiencing symptoms. She died at the age of 36, with her family announcing her death on Tuesday evening.

Borthwick is survived by her twin sons, Max and Freddie, and her husband, Ross.

She had previously spoken publicly about her illness and became involved with the Brain Cancer Justice campaign group, which is calling for greater political support and funding for people affected by rare cancers.

Borthwick was diagnosed with glioblastoma after experiencing headaches during the festive period. She initially believed the symptoms were related to exhaustion after the holidays.

A statement posted on her Instagram account on Tuesday said that Borthwick had “slipped away peacefully” surrounded by her family.

The statement described her as brave and determined until the end and said she had meant a great deal to many people.

Her family also thanked those who had supported Borthwick during the eight months since she had publicly shared her diagnosis, saying the support had meant a great deal to both her and the family.

Borthwick’s death comes after she used her experience to raise awareness of brain cancer and campaign for greater support for people diagnosed with rare forms of the disease.
