Meghan Markle’s Letter to Her Father Revealed — What Happened When Thomas Markle Received It?

Meghan Markle’s decision to distance herself from her father, Thomas Markle, has come under renewed scrutiny following reports about a letter she sent him while he was recovering in hospital.

The letter was reportedly delivered to Thomas Markle in 2025, when he was receiving treatment in the Philippines after undergoing surgery that resulted in the amputation of his left leg. According to reports, Meghan told her estranged father that she was aware of serious allegations made against him and that he would not be allowed to meet her children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet.

The correspondence was said to mark the end of Meghan’s attempts to contact him. Reports also said the letter was delivered through hospital staff, with Thomas asked to acknowledge receiving it.

The reported letter has become particularly significant amid a separate investigation in the Philippines. Thomas Markle’s son, Thomas Markle Jr., has alleged that he discovered child sexual abuse material at his father’s former home and handed information to authorities. Thomas Sr. has strongly denied the accusations, calling them lies.

Meghan addressed the wider allegations publicly on October 23, saying she had been made aware of troubling claims about her father in 2018. She said a letter containing those allegations had been sent to the Metropolitan Police and Royalty and Specialist Protection, and that it was subsequently shared with her. She added that she had been assured the matter was being investigated.

The Metropolitan Police later confirmed receiving a letter in January 2019. The force said it had reviewed the concerns and passed the letter to the office of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex. However, it acknowledged that the allegations were not shared with other law enforcement agencies and said it was reviewing how the matter had been handled.

Thomas Markle has denied wrongdoing. He has also said he was shocked by the accusations and disputed claims that he had been informed of the allegations through Meghan’s letter.

Meghan and her father have been estranged since 2018, when their relationship deteriorated in the run-up to her wedding to Prince Harry. Thomas has never met the couple’s children.

The reported letter offers a glimpse into how the family’s long-running estrangement has developed, but the allegations against Thomas remain under investigation and have not been established in court.
