My Husband Ordered Me to Kneel PART 2: The Message That Destroyed His Confidence

My Husband Ordered Me to Kneel
PART 2: The Message That Destroyed His Confidence
“Get back here!” Mark shouted as I stepped outside his mother’s mansion.
I didn’t stop.
My phone vibrated before I reached the driveway. Mark was calling, followed by a dozen messages demanding that I explain what he had seen.
I ignored every one.
Instead, I opened the message again.
“Congratulations on your wedding, Claire. As agreed, the acquisition of Moretti Industries is now complete. Your 51% ownership makes you the company’s majority shareholder. The board is ready to meet whenever you wish.”
Mark had spent five years building his reputation as a powerful businessman. What he had never known was that the investment firm that had quietly rescued his struggling company belonged to me.
I had inherited a fortune from my grandfather, a man who taught me that real power didn’t need to announce itself.
When Mark’s business nearly collapsed two years ago, I had secretly arranged the investment through my family’s holding company. I wanted to help the man I loved succeed without making him feel indebted to me.
I had planned to tell him after our honeymoon.
Now, I wondered whether I had ever truly known him.
A black car pulled up beside me. My personal assistant, Daniel, stepped out.
“Miss Bennett, the board is waiting for your instructions.”
I nodded. “Tell them I’ll be there in thirty minutes.”
Before I could get into the car, Mark came running down the steps.
“You can’t do this to me!” he shouted.
I turned toward him.
“Do what, Mark?”
He lowered his voice when he noticed Daniel standing beside me.
“That message. You said you had something to tell me. What does it mean?”
“It means your company is no longer controlled by you alone.”
His eyes widened.
“You’re just a housewife! You don’t have that kind of money.”
I almost laughed.
“You’ve been married to me for less than twenty-four hours, and you’ve already decided what I’m capable of.”
His expression shifted from anger to desperation.
“Claire, listen. My mother was upset. I didn’t mean what I said at breakfast.”
“You threw a filthy rag at my feet and ordered me to kneel.”
“I was trying to keep peace in my family!”
“No,” I replied. “You were showing me exactly who you are when you think you have power over someone.”
He reached for my hand, but I stepped away.
Then Margaret appeared at the entrance.

“Claire, darling,” she called sweetly, as though nothing had happened. “Let’s not turn a little misunderstanding into a family scandal.”
I looked at her.
“You humiliated me in front of twenty people. Was that also a misunderstanding?”
Her smile disappeared.
Mark moved between us.
“Enough! Whatever this is, we can discuss it at home.”
I shook my head.
“I won’t be coming home.”
His face went pale.
“You wouldn’t dare leave your husband on the first day of marriage.”
I opened the car door.
“Watch me.”
As I got inside, I heard him shout my name again.
But this time, I didn’t look back.
Because I was heading to a boardroom where everyone knew my real identity.
And Mark was about to discover that the woman he had ordered to kneel was the very person who could decide his company’s future.
