Mystery Deepens After Unidentified Man Found Dead Inside Aircraft Landing Gear at KLIA
KUALA LUMPUR, MALAYSIA — September 23, 2026

Nearly a month after a man’s body was discovered inside the landing gear compartment of an aircraft at Kuala Lumpur International Airport, Malaysian police still do not know who he was or how he ended up inside the aircraft.

The remains were discovered at KLIA Terminal 2 on August 27, after ground personnel inspected the aircraft following its arrival from Tokyo. Police said no identification documents were found on the body.

Identity Still Unknown
Selangor police chief Datuk Shazeli Kahar said on Wednesday that no relatives or members of the public had come forward with information that could establish the man’s identity.

Police are appealing to families who have relatives who have gone missing to contact authorities, as investigators continue efforts to determine who the deceased was.

The body was found in a decomposed condition. Earlier police information said the man appeared to be between 17 and 25 years old based on his physical build. He was wearing a white hoodie, light-blue jeans, a brown belt, socks and black sports shoes.

How Did He Get Inside the Aircraft?
The circumstances surrounding the man’s presence inside the landing gear compartment remain unclear.

Police have not confirmed that the man was a stowaway, and authorities have cautioned against drawing conclusions before the investigation is complete.

Shazeli said there had been previous cases of people being found inside aircraft landing gear compartments, but investigators were still working to establish what happened in this case.

The location is particularly dangerous because landing-gear compartments are not part of the aircraft’s pressurised passenger cabin and are exposed to extreme conditions during flight.

Investigation Continues
Police are continuing to investigate the man’s identity and the circumstances surrounding his death.

The discovery has also raised questions about how an unidentified person could have gained access to an aircraft and remained undetected until after it arrived at Kuala Lumpur.

For now, authorities have not announced any suspect or criminal charge in connection with the death.

The investigation remains ongoing as police appeal for information that could finally establish the man’s identity.
