A disturbing new layer has emerged in the Ohio case involving 16 children who were removed from a Hamden home earlier this summer. Newly reported court records indicate that Gary Siders Jr. and Elizabeth Siders had previously taken another minor into their home — effectively bringing the number of children now connected to investigators’ scrutiny to 17.

According to the newly disclosed records, the additional child, who was between 13 and 16 years old, lived with the couple for several months in 2022. That child later made abuse allegations connected to the time spent under their care. The development is significant because investigators are now examining events that allegedly occurred years before authorities entered the Hamden property in June 2026.

The original investigation became public after law enforcement executed a search warrant at the family’s home on June 30. Authorities discovered 16 children, ranging from about 18 months to 18 years old, living in conditions officials described as deplorable. Several children required hospital treatment, and authorities said some were in serious condition. Investigators also said the family had moved through multiple Ohio counties while establishing relatively few medical or government records.

The criminal case has since expanded beyond the original child-endangerment allegations. A Vinton County grand jury later indicted Gary Siders Jr. and Elizabeth Siders on sexual battery and unlawful sexual conduct charges involving another minor who was not one of their immediate children. Both are entitled to the presumption of innocence, and Elizabeth pleaded not guilty to the additional charges during a Sept. 16 court appearance.

The newly revealed history involving a 17th child raises another major question for investigators: How far back do the alleged problems inside this family environment extend? What initially appeared to center on conditions discovered inside one Ohio house is now tied to allegations and records reaching several years into the past.

Authorities have previously said the investigation remains ongoing and that investigators will continue following the evidence wherever it leads. With additional court records, new criminal charges and another child now connected to the case, the full scope of what allegedly happened may still not be known.
