Officer Rescues Escaped Guinea Pig From Park in Colorado

An animal control officer in Colorado, United States, carried out a gentle rescue after a guinea pig appeared to escape and was found wandering in a city park.

The incident happened in Grand Junction, where Animal Control officer Darcy responded after the small white-and-brown guinea pig was spotted in the park.

A Careful Approach

Video released by the Grand Junction Police Department shows the officer kneeling on the grass and calmly approaching the animal.

Rather than chasing the guinea pig, the officer slowly reached toward it while speaking to the animal. A second officer also arrived with a small plastic carrier.

The Guinea Pig Is Safely Captured

After getting close enough, officer Darcy used a white towel to carefully pick up the guinea pig.

The animal was then placed inside the carrier, allowing officers to remove it safely from the park.

An Unusual Animal Control Call

Guinea pigs are commonly kept as pets, and the circumstances surrounding how this particular animal ended up in the park were not immediately clear.

Authorities said the guinea pig appeared to have escaped before being found by officers.

A Gentle Rescue

The short rescue operation ended without incident, with the guinea pig safely secured by animal control officers.

The unusual call also provided a reminder that animal control teams can be called upon to help pets and other small animals found outside their homes.
