“Our World Is Broken”: Mother Pays Heartbreaking Tribute After Husband and Two Teenage Sons Die in Colorado Plane Crash

A Colorado family has been devastated by the deaths of a father and his two teenage sons after their small plane crashed in a remote mountain wilderness, leaving a grieving mother and their surviving son to face an unimaginable loss.

Mark Hendrickson, 46, and his sons Alan, 15, and Case, 13, died on Saturday, October 24, 2026, when their single-engine aircraft crashed near Swampy Pass in Colorado’s Gunnison National Forest.

The family, who lived in New Castle, Colorado, were aboard the plane when it went down in the rugged West Elk Wilderness. Emergency responders were alerted to the crash at around 9:20 a.m. local time. When crews reached the wreckage, all three occupants had died.

In a heartbreaking tribute shared after the tragedy, Mark’s wife, Jenni Hendrickson, described her husband and boys as the loves of her life.

“Our family’s world is broken,” she wrote, expressing gratitude to friends and relatives who had offered support and prayers. She also acknowledged the difficult road ahead for herself and the couple’s surviving son, Coen.

The boys’ aunt, Niccole Ruby Hendrickson, also shared a message asking family and friends to keep the grieving relatives in their thoughts as they tried to process the loss.

Mark was an experienced professional who worked as a manager for Denver-based Shaw Construction. He had earned a bachelor’s degree in construction management and had worked for the company for nearly a decade.

His sons were active in school life. Alan, 15, participated in varsity football and baseball, according to high school athletics records.

The crash occurred in a remote mountainous area, and officials have not yet determined what caused the aircraft to go down. The National Transportation Safety Board, Federal Aviation Administration, Gunnison County Sheriff’s Office and U.S. Forest Service are involved in the investigation.

Authorities have not released further details about the flight’s destination or the circumstances immediately before the crash.

As the investigation continues, the Hendrickson family is left to mourn three loved ones whose lives ended together. Their mother’s tribute has resonated with people offering condolences, as relatives ask for privacy and compassion during an extraordinarily painful time.
