Two students were killed and eight others injured in a shooting at a school in Banga, South Cotabato, Philippines, on September 18, 2026. Four of the injured students were reported to be in critical condition, with all victims aged between 14 and 17.

The 16-year-old suspect reportedly left his classroom and opened fire on students in another classroom before turning the gun on himself. Officials said he used a 9-mm pistol belonging to his father, a Department of Education employee, after accessing a secured firearm vault.

Authorities are investigating the teenager’s possible links to an online “true crime” community and examining what may have led to the attack. The shooting comes after several other deadly incidents at Philippine schools in recent months.

South Cotabato Governor Reynaldo Tamayo urged gun owners to keep firearms securely stored and inaccessible to minors.
