Thai Court Hands Am Cyanide Third Death Sentence in Poisoning Case
BANGKOK, THAILAND — September 22, 2026

A Bangkok criminal court has sentenced Sararat Rangsiwuthaporn, widely known as “Am Cyanide,” to death for the cyanide poisoning death of a woman who was her creditor.

The verdict marks Sararat’s third death sentence in a series of 15 poisoning-related cases brought against her. She has denied wrongdoing, and her lawyers said they will appeal the latest judgment.

Victim Died After Meeting Sararat
The case involved 43-year-old Chantharat “Jum” Wongkraisin, who died on August 15, 2022, after meeting Sararat in Phetchaburi.

According to the court’s findings, Chantharat had transferred money to Sararat for an investment arrangement and had separately lent her money. Sararat had arranged to repay the money before the meeting.

The court heard that Sararat had purchased cyanide several days before the meeting.

After Chantharat returned home, her husband found her unconscious and took her to hospital, where she later died. A forensic medicine specialist testified that her symptoms were consistent with significant cyanide exposure.

Court Relied on Circumstantial Evidence
No eyewitness testified to seeing Sararat administer cyanide to Chantharat.

However, the court concluded that the prosecution’s circumstantial evidence established Sararat’s guilt beyond reasonable doubt. The court considered the cyanide purchase, the financial dispute and the circumstances surrounding the meeting.

The court ruled that the killing was committed to avoid repaying the money owed to the victim.

Sararat was also ordered to pay 60,000 baht plus annual interest of 5% to the victim’s husband.

Defence Plans Appeal
Sararat’s lawyers disputed the court’s assessment of the evidence and said an appeal would be filed.

The defence questioned the connection between Sararat and the cyanide and argued that evidence from other cases should not automatically be used to establish guilt in this case. Sararat continues to deny the accusation.

Eight of 15 Cases Have Been Decided
The latest verdict is the eighth judgment in the 15 cases filed against Sararat.

According to The Nation, the eight cases decided so far have resulted in three death sentences, two life-imprisonment sentences and three acquittals. Another case is scheduled for judgment in November.

The latest ruling does not conclude Sararat’s entire legal case, as appeals and the remaining proceedings are still pending.
