Ten Arrested After Deadly Shootout With Police in Johannesburg

Ten people have been arrested after a shootout between police and suspected criminals in Cleveland, east of Johannesburg, South Africa. Police said nine firearms, magazines and live ammunition were also recovered following the confrontation.

Suspicious Vehicle Draws Police Attention
According to the South African Police Service, officers were conducting patrols on Monday evening, September 21, when they noticed a suspicious Hyundai H100 fitted with blue lights and a siren.

Police said the vehicle repeatedly stopped when officers approached before driving away when they attempted to intercept it. Officers called for backup and continued following the vehicle.

Gunfire Erupts
When the vehicle eventually stopped, three suspects allegedly got out and opened fire at police, authorities said.

A shootout followed. Two suspects reportedly fled the scene on foot, while a third suspect was fatally shot during the confrontation.

Police then searched the vehicle and found 10 suspects inside. Nine firearms, along with magazines and live ammunition, were recovered.

Multiple Charges Under Investigation
Cleveland police have opened cases involving murder, attempted murder, attempted business robbery and possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition.

The arrested suspects are between 30 and 54 years old, according to police. They are expected to appear in court as the investigation continues.

Police are also searching for the two suspects who allegedly escaped from the scene.

Authorities have not yet provided further details about the identities of the suspects or the circumstances surrounding the alleged attempted business robbery.
