The Necklace of Betrayal Part 3 – The Last Secret of Alexander Moretti

The Necklace of Betrayal

Part 3 – The Last Secret of Alexander Moretti

Three weeks passed.

I moved into a quiet luxury apartment outside downtown Chicago. Daniel arranged additional security, and my doctors advised me to avoid unnecessary stress during the remainder of my pregnancy.

Meanwhile, Alexander was becoming increasingly desperate.

His calls changed from angry demands to emotional apologies.

Alexander: I miss you, Claire.

Alexander: The house is empty without you.

Alexander: Please let me see my baby.

I didn’t respond.

Then, one Friday morning, Daniel arrived with a new discovery.

“We found something.”

He placed a flash drive on my kitchen table.

“One of Alexander’s former accountants contacted us. He has copies of internal financial records.”

I frowned.

“What did he find?”

Daniel opened his laptop.

A spreadsheet appeared on the screen.

It contained dozens of transfers between Alexander’s private companies, Olivia’s accounts, and several offshore businesses.

But one entry caught my attention.

A payment of $12 million.

The recipient was a company I had never heard of.

“What’s that company?” I asked.

Daniel zoomed in.

“That’s the interesting part. It’s registered in Delaware, but the controlling shareholder is Olivia Hayes.”

I felt my chest tighten.

“Twelve million dollars?”

“Yes. And there’s evidence that Alexander intended to transfer additional assets into it before the end of the year.”

I stared at the screen.

“Was he planning to leave me with the debts?”

Daniel nodded slowly.

“It appears he was preparing to move significant assets beyond the reach of creditors and possibly the divorce proceedings. Your identity was used in several related transactions.”

I sat back.

Five years of marriage.

Five years of trusting him.

And all along, he had been building an escape plan.

But the accountant had discovered something even more shocking.

Daniel opened another file.

It was an audio recording from a private office meeting.

Alexander’s voice filled the room.

“Once Claire signs the revised documents, everything will be clean. If anyone investigates, the companies are hers. Olivia will keep the money, and I’ll make sure Claire receives enough to stay quiet.”

Another male voice asked, “What about the baby?”

Alexander answered without hesitation.

“That’s why I need her to cooperate before the child is born.”

I stopped breathing.

Daniel immediately paused the recording.

“Claire, we don’t need to listen to the rest.”

But I shook my head.

“Play it.”

The recording continued.

Olivia’s voice suddenly appeared.

“And if she refuses?”

Alexander chuckled.

“She won’t. Claire has always trusted me. Besides, she’s carrying my child. She won’t want a scandal.”

I lowered my head.

Tears slipped down my cheeks.

Not because I still loved him.

But because I finally understood how little he thought of me.

Daniel closed the laptop.

“We have enough evidence to take this to the authorities. We can also use it in the divorce case.”

I wiped my face.

“Do it.”

That afternoon, the financial investigation was formally submitted.

Within days, several of Alexander’s business accounts were placed under scrutiny. His attorneys began receiving requests for records, and the board of Moretti Holdings demanded an emergency meeting.

Then came the phone call I had been expecting.

Alexander.

I answered.

“What did you do, Claire?”

His voice was furious.

“I protected myself.”

“You’ve frozen my accounts!”

“Accounts that were being investigated because of transactions involving my identity.”

“You’re destroying my company!”

I looked at the small ultrasound photograph sitting on my desk.

“No, Alexander. I’m no longer helping you destroy me.”

He went silent.

Then his voice softened.

“Claire, please. We can fix this. Come home. I’ll fire Olivia. I’ll give you the necklace. I’ll buy you whatever you want.”

I almost smiled.

“The necklace?”

“Yes. It’s yours. I’ll take it back from her.”

I shook my head.

“You still don’t understand.”

“Then tell me what you want!”

“I wanted a husband who respected me. I wanted a father who would be there when our child was born. I wanted the man who promised to protect us.”

My voice trembled.

“But you chose Olivia. You chose money. And you chose to use my name to hide your secrets.”

“Claire, I made mistakes.”

“No. You made decisions.”

I ended the call.

Two days later, Alexander appeared at my apartment building.

Security informed me that he was downstairs and refusing to leave.

I agreed to meet him in the lobby, with Daniel and a security officer present.

When he walked in, I barely recognized him.

His expensive suit was wrinkled. His eyes were bloodshot, and his usual confidence had disappeared.

He looked at my growing belly.

“Claire…”

I remained standing.

“What do you want?”

He swallowed.

“I want my family back.”

I stared at him.

“Your family?”

“I’m your husband.”

“Not for much longer.”

He stepped closer.

“Please. I know I hurt you. But I never wanted things to go this far.”

I looked at him for several seconds.

“Did you ever love me, Alexander?”

He opened his mouth but couldn’t answer.

That silence told me everything.

Then he reached into his coat and pulled out a small velvet box.

Inside was a diamond necklace.

Not the original one.

Another expensive necklace.

“I bought this for you,” he whispered. “Please take it.”

I gently pushed his hand away.

“Keep it.”

“Claire…”

“I don’t want another necklace. I wanted the one you promised me, but not because of its price. I wanted to believe that when you made a promise to me, it meant something.”

His eyes filled with tears.

For the first time, Alexander Moretti looked completely powerless.

Then his phone rang.

He glanced at the screen.

Olivia.

He rejected the call.

A second later, another message appeared.

I couldn’t help noticing the preview.

Olivia: Alexander, you promised you’d protect me. If the investigation continues, I’ll tell them everything about the offshore accounts.

Alexander’s face turned pale.

I looked at him.

“Seems like your beautiful assistant has something to say.”

He quickly put his phone away.

“That’s none of your business.”

I nodded.

“You’re right. Nothing about you is my business anymore.”

I turned toward the elevator.

Behind me, he called my name.

“Claire! Please don’t do this. I’m going to lose everything!”

I stopped for one final moment.

Then I looked over my shoulder.

“You should have thought about that before you decided I was disposable.”

I walked away.

Three days later, Olivia Hayes disappeared from Chicago.

And Alexander received a notification that would change his life forever.

His wife had officially filed for divorce.

But that wasn’t the biggest news.

Because Daniel had just discovered that the former accountant possessed one final document—an original agreement bearing Alexander’s own signature.

A document proving that the $12 million transfer was never supposed to belong to Olivia.

It was supposed to fund a secret trust for the child I was carrying.

Alexander had stolen from his own unborn baby.

And this time, I wasn’t going to let him escape the consequences.
