Three Young Sisters Found Dead After Father’s Visit — What Happened in Washington’s Tragic Case?

A search for three missing young sisters in Washington state turned into a homicide investigation in June 2025 after their bodies were discovered near an abandoned pickup truck. Their father, Travis Decker, became the focus of a massive manhunt that lasted nearly four months.

The girls, identified as 9-year-old Paityn, 8-year-old Evelyn and 5-year-old Olivia Decker, had gone to spend time with their father on May 30, 2025. Their mother reported them missing after they were not returned as planned, according to authorities.

Investigators later located Decker’s white pickup truck near the Rock Island Campground outside Leavenworth. The girls’ bodies were found nearby on June 2. Court records and statements from law enforcement indicated that the children had been restrained, and authorities later determined that they died from suffocation.

Decker, a 32-year-old former Army soldier, was wanted on three counts of first-degree murder and three counts of kidnapping. Authorities warned the public not to approach him, citing his military background and wilderness-survival experience. Multiple agencies, including federal law enforcement, assisted in the search.

The case drew widespread attention and raised questions about how the girls’ disappearance was initially handled. Officials said an Amber Alert was not issued at first because the circumstances did not meet the state’s criteria at that time.

In September 2025, authorities announced that human remains discovered in a remote area of Washington had been positively identified as Decker through DNA testing. The identification brought the search for him to an end.

The deaths of the three sisters left their community grieving and prompted renewed attention to the circumstances surrounding their final visit with their father.
