A heartbreaking tragedy in New York City has left a family grieving the loss of a 15-year-old girl whose love of cycling was captured in photos long before her final ride.

Daria Serkov, 15, was riding a Citi Bike with a 13-year-old friend in Manhattan’s Lower East Side at around 9 p.m. Friday when she was struck by an excavation vehicle on 14th Street, according to police.

Daria was a twin, and friends say cycling was something she genuinely enjoyed. Photos shared on social media showed the teenager riding bicycles, including at least one picture featuring her on a Citi Bike — a haunting reminder of an activity that had been part of her life.

The crash happened suddenly, leaving bystanders rushing to help.

Emergency responders arrived at the scene and attempted lifesaving measures, but Daria could not be saved.

Her 13-year-old friend was also injured in the crash and was taken to a hospital for treatment, police said.

The truck driver remained at the scene following the incident. Witnesses described the driver as visibly devastated by what had happened.

No charges had been filed in connection with the crash at the time of the reports, and the circumstances remained under investigation.

As Daria’s loved ones struggle to process the loss, a family friend launched a fundraiser to help the Serkov family with funeral expenses and other needs.

The fundraiser also aims to support Daria’s twin sister, Greta, and the rest of the family as they navigate an unimaginable loss.

“While no amount of money changes the outcome of this awful event, it takes a village of friends, family and neighbors to lift them up,” family friend Chris Janssen wrote.

The community has responded with an outpouring of support. More than $62,500 had reportedly been raised for the family by Sunday morning.
