Two Men Arrested Over Suspected Terror Plot Targeting Jewish Community in Manchester

Two men have been arrested in Manchester on suspicion of terrorism offences as part of an investigation into an alleged plot targeting the Jewish community, British counter-terrorism police said.

The men, both in their 30s, were arrested in central Manchester on Sunday and remain in police custody. The arrests came during the Jewish High Holy Days, including Yom Kippur, one of the most important days in the Jewish calendar.

Police Say Plot Was Disrupted
Counter Terrorism Policing said the arrests followed a long-running investigation into what officers believe was a plot to target the Jewish community in the Manchester area.

Deputy Assistant Commissioner Vicki Evans said investigators had taken action because they believed there could be a threat to the public.

Police said there is currently no ongoing threat to the public connected to the investigation. However, additional security measures remain in place around Jewish communities and places of worship.

The two men were arrested under Section 41 of the Terrorism Act 2000, which allows police to detain people suspected of being terrorists without a warrant.

Searches Conducted in Manchester, Salford and Liverpool
Following the arrests, officers searched properties in Salford and Liverpool as part of the investigation.

Police said the searches have now been completed, while investigators continue examining electronic devices and other material gathered during the operation.

The suspects were taken to a police station in London for questioning. Warrants allowing officers to continue detaining them were obtained as investigators work to establish the full circumstances surrounding the alleged plot.

Arrests Come During Heightened Security
The investigation has attracted particular attention because it comes almost a year after a deadly attack at a synagogue in Manchester during Yom Kippur in 2025.

Following the latest arrests, Greater Manchester Police increased patrols around Jewish communities as the High Holy Days continue.

The force said officers are maintaining a visible presence and working with community leaders to provide additional security. Police also urged members of the public to report anything suspicious.

Authorities have not publicly identified the two suspects or confirmed their nationality, ethnicity or specific motive.

Police have also not released details about what they believe the suspects were planning to do.

Investigation Continues
Counter-terrorism investigators said they are pursuing several lines of inquiry and expect the investigation to continue over the coming days.

At this stage, the men have only been arrested on suspicion of terrorism offences and have not been charged.
