Where Is Wade Wilson Now? Inside the Florida Death Row Unit Holding the “Deadpool Killer”

Wade Wilson, the Florida man known as the “Deadpool Killer,” remains on death row at Union Correctional Institution in Raiford, Florida, after being sentenced to death for murdering two women in 2019.

Wilson was convicted of killing Kristine Melton, 35, and Diane Ruiz, 43, in Fort Myers. Prosecutors said he strangled Melton at her home before stealing her car. He later encountered Ruiz, who was walking to work, and killed her after she entered the vehicle to help him with directions.

Wilson was arrested on October 8, 2019, after contacting his biological father, Steven Testasecca, and confessing to the killings. Testasecca alerted police and helped authorities locate his son.

In June 2024, a jury found Wilson guilty of two counts of first-degree murder, along with other charges. The jury recommended death sentences, and a judge formally sentenced him to death in August 2024. Wilson also received a 12-year prison sentence in a separate drug-trafficking case, to run concurrently with his death sentences.

His case attracted widespread attention during the trial, partly because of his appearance, tattoos and the nickname he shares with Marvel’s fictional character. It later received renewed attention through the Netflix documentary series Worst Ex Ever, which explored his relationships and the events leading up to the murders.

Wilson’s legal case is not over. His attorneys have challenged aspects of his death sentence, including the Florida law allowing a jury to recommend capital punishment without a unanimous vote. In February 2026, his attorneys indicated they intended to pursue further review, including at the U.S. Supreme Court.

An execution date has not been set. Like other death-row prisoners, Wilson can continue pursuing available appeals, a process that can take years.

For now, he remains incarcerated on Florida’s death row, serving two death sentences for the murders of Melton and Ruiz. The families of the victims continue to live with the consequences of the crimes, while the legal proceedings surrounding Wilson’s punishment move forward.
